Measurements

Measurement are important because children need to have an understanding of length, volume and weight of different objects. This provide them opportunities to strengthen their learning and measurement understandings at the same time.

Activities

  1. How tall am i?

Materials:

  • Yarn.
  • Students pictures.
  • Glue.
  • Cardboard,

Procedure:

The chid will paste a yarn on the paper according to their own measure to know how tall are them.

  1. Measure using blocks

Materials:

  • Blocks.
  • Toys.
  • White paper.
  • Markers.

Procedure:

The child will has a laminated mat and a whiteboard marker. They will measure the length of each picture that is on their table. Then they will measure using blocks. Finally they will count and record the number onto measuring mat next to the picture that was just measured.

  1. The mitten

Materials:

  • Construction paper mittens.

Procedure:

The child will measure his classmates with mittens. They will put the mittens next to the student and finally they will count how many of them they need to measure their height.

  1. Snowman and reindeer ruler.

Materials:

  • Popsicle sticks.
  • Paint.
  • Markers.

Procedure:

The child will make a snowman or reindeer paint stick ruler. First, they will paint the stick with white or brown paint. Then they will add lines and numbers for measuring with a permanent marker.

  1. My own balance

Materials:

  • Two plastic cut glasses.
  • Three strands of yarn.
  • Plastic hanger.

Procedure:

The child will Figure out how to balance objects. They will try to balance the same type of objects on either side of a balance or trying to find two objects that have the same weight using their own balance.
